Wow – God!

Church in the Park

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  (Matthew 28:18-20 NLT)

On Sunday July 30  CHURCH@Claremont  took our Sunday service into Queen’s Park, half a mile from our church building.  We offered fun for children with a free bouncy ‘assault course’ (castles are so 11th century), free food and our own brand of worship service between 12 noon and 5pm.

On the day, you could almost feel the presence of God.  He looked after the weather – as we drove to the park, it poured with rain – but we didn’t see any more until the last visitor had left – then the heavens opened.

The first worship set was played and several people told their stories of how God had come into their lives and changed them.  People were asking for prayer before we had even got going properly – and the Church was pleased to oblige!

After a burger and cake lunch, the band led some more worship and singing before Steve Pilkington came to speak to us about what it means to be a Christian.  All over the field people heard Good News – some maybe for the first time.  Afterwards, some came to ask to “join” – to ask Jesus Christ to enter their story and change their lives.

As well as those in the tent, quite a lot of local inhabitants, who came for the food and fun, heard the Word of God.  We were thrilled to have visits, prayer and encouragement from several local churches.

To see more pictures from the Church in the Park, follow this link. If you select “slideshow”, the pictures will change automatically.  As the pictures are quite big it may take a few moments to start.

CHURCH@Claremont would like to offer our appreciation to the many people who helped to make this possible, including: Aquila Shelters, who provided the main marquee, much of the transport and plain hard work; Bolton Council Neighbourhood Services, who made it possible for us to use a big part of the beautiful Queen’s Park; members of Newbold Baptist Church, who provided equipment and skills; Steve Pilkington, for telling the Good News so clearly; and our own church members who did so much hard work in every area.  Our biggest thank-you is reserved for Jesus Christ Himself, for making everything possible!  (Of course, I’ve missed some contributors, so please accept our grateful thanks anyway!)

Find out what it means to really be loved – by Jesus Christ and by His followers.  Join us at 10:30 each Sunday.

“For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him”.   (Jesus Christ, speaking in John 3:16-17 NLT)

“… Many people think that Christianity is about rules and obedience.  It’s a lot better than that!  It’s really about relationships – a relationship with God and relationships with those around us…”

It’s All About People!
