What does a Relationship with God look like?

In John's Gospel (the story of Jesus' life told by one of His closest associates, John), we can read quite a significant passage:

“... soon ... you will ask (the Father) in my name. I’m not saying I will ask the Father on your behalf, for the Father himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God.  (John 16:25-27 NLT)

Here Jesus is saying that we can ask God the Father, quoting that you are a friend of Jesus.  God the Father loves us because we love His Son, Jesus, and so He will always respond.  Of course, sometimes His response is "Yes", occasionally it has to be "No" or sometimes it could be  "Wait", but He cannot ignore those who come in Jesus' name.

Of course, these words are nothing but opinions unless they are backed up by what happens in reality.  Time after time I speak with Christian believers and followers of Christ who confirm that, at the moment that they asked Christ for forgiveness for the wrong things in their life and agreed to follow His teaching, everything changes. (You can listen to some of the stories of people in our church in the "Listen to Life Stories" page of this web site).

Once you have established your relationship with God, you can expect that He will start to change you - into His likeness.  You will also find yourself becoming more and more 'spiritually aware' - aware of God's presence and of spiritual things generally.  You will also find that, occasionally, God Himself will speak to you - not, usually, in an audible voice, but by making you aware of His presence and of something that He wants you to know.  Often He uses a passage of the bible (His written Word), or it can happen when we are praying, when we are reading our bible or even in a church meeting.  That will change the direction of your life!

But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.  (2 Corinthians 3:16-18 NLT)
